Dear Planetarians,
Welcome to Grand Rapids for the GLPA+PPA conference, October 20-24, 2026. This year is truly special as we gather for a joint conference between the Great Lakes Planetarium Association and the Pacific Planetarium Association. The Grand Rapids Public Museum is honored to host this international community in our own Roger B. Chaffee Planetarium.
This conference marks a sentimental return to the city where the very first GLPA conference was held in 1965. Coming home to Grand Rapids after sixty years allows us to reflect on our shared values while forging new traditions with our colleagues from the Pacific coast.
Our program is packed with inspiration, featuring keynote speakers Dr. Michael West presenting "Looking Up for a Living" and Dr. Deana Weibel sharing "The Ultraview Effect." We are also eager for Shannon Schmoll’s "Astronomy Update" and a heartfelt Spitz Lecture honoring Geoff Holt. From workshops to paper sessions, this week is a celebration of our shared passion for the stars.
Beyond the conference workshops, I invite you to explore everything our museum and the beautiful city of Grand Rapids have to offer. Whether you are strolling along the riverfront or discovering a new exhibit, I encourage you to embrace GRPM’s motto, "Be curious."
It is a privilege to have you here. Thank you for bringing your dedication and expertise to the 2026 GLPA+PPA Conference. We are so glad you joined us!
